Drake Visits Jimi Hendrix’s Gravesite

During a stop at the Bumbershoot festival in Seattle, Drake visited the grave of rock legend Jimi Hendrix, who passed away 16 years before Drizzy was born.

“I’m a huge fan—I play the DVD of Hendrix at Woodstock to pump me up before I perform,” Drake told Rolling Stone. “Watching him go out there at 10 in the morning in shitty weather and conquer the crowd always gives me a little more adrenaline. I just left a little letter for Jimi at his grave.”

What did Drake say to the late rocker? “I just wrote him a message on a pack of Zig-Zags. It said, ‘Still inspired.’

Jay-Z Makes History @ Yankee Stadium With Kanye West & Drake (Photos)

Hip-hop reached stadium status once again when Jay-Z and Eminem co-headlined the first of two sold-out shows at Yankee Stadium in New York City on Monday (Sept. 13). After performing at Comerica Park in Detroit last week, it was Jay-Z’s turn to take it back home.

The King of New York knocked it out of the park with an all-star lineup that included Drake, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Swizz Beatz, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, and his wife Beyoncé. The audience was just as star-studded with LeBron James, Charlize Theron, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Naomi Campbell all throwing up the diamond.

After B.o.B and J. Cole opened earlier in the evening, Eminem took the stage with his own special guests Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, B.o.B, and D12. “Do not think that I don’t know where I’m at right now,” Em told the 50,000-plus crowd. “I’m also honored to be on this f**kin’ stage in the Bronx, the f**kin’ birthplace of hip-hop.”

Then it was time for Hov, who brought out Drake to perform “Miss Me” and “Light Up” live for the first time, while Chris Martin accompanied him on “Heart of the City (Ain’t No Love),” “Most Kings,” and “Viva La Vida.” Kanye—wearing his Horus chain, red suit, and cheetah-print shirt—stood by his big brother for “Run This Town” and “Power (Remix),” with Nicki Minaj joining the party for “Monster.” If that weren’t enough, Mrs. Carter helped closed the night by assisting on “Young Forever.”

The concert was not only a milestone in the rappers’ esteemed careers, but also for hip-hop. “This is historic,” said Jay as the epic night drew to a close. “There ain’t never gonna be another night like tonight.”

Drake Ft. Bun B – “Miss Me” (OG Mix)

When Drake first linked up with Bun B in the studio, the pair crafted “All Night Long,” originally intended to make the final cut of Bun’s Trill OG. But after Lil Wayne heard the Boi-1da and 40 production with the Houston native’s verse on it, Drake decided to replace Bun with Weezy and take it for his debut Thank Me Later under the title “Miss Me.

Tank Ft. Drake – “Celebration”

It’s a celebration! Singer-songwriter Tank links up with Drake for the silky mid-tempo joint “Celebration,” where he sings about popping bottles of Rosé before getting it in with his lady. Drizzy jumps on the sparse beat, telling his girl that she’s “crazy, sexy, cool” like one of his favorite groups TLC.

Drake Ft. Trey Songz – “Fancy” (Performance)

With plans for Swizz Beatz and Mary J. Blige to join him tonight to perform “Fancy” at the MTV Video Music Awards, Drake practiced the tune by surprising the crowd at Trey Songz’ “Passion, Pain & Pleasure Tour” stop at Los Angeles’ Club Nokia on Friday (Sept. 10). “Where my L.A. girls? Lemme see your hands!” rapped Drizzy as Trey played hype man on the other side of the stage. Practice makes perfect!
